Kordovan is a Pakistani leather brand, so ranking ourselves is self-serving by definition. We have tried to make the page useful anyway: every brand gets an honest note, we say where we are the wrong choice, and the price section applies to every name here including ours. If you read one part, read that one — it is what tells you whether a price makes sense before you pay it.

Why Pakistan makes good leather
This matters, because the most common assumption we hear is that imported means better.
Pakistan has one of the older tanning industries in the region. Kasur, south of Lahore, has been a tanning centre for generations. Sialkot is known worldwide for leather goods and gloves. Karachi holds a dense cluster of leather goods workshops and exporters. A significant share of finished leather and leather goods made here is exported and sold under other labels abroad.
Which means the raw material available to a Pakistani brand is genuinely good. The variation you see between shops is almost never about the country — it is about which grade of hide a brand chooses to buy, and how carefully the thing is stitched. Two wallets from the same tannery can be five years apart in lifespan depending on who made them.
What genuine leather actually costs in Pakistan
Every category has a floor below which the maths does not work. Learn these and you can judge any brand, including ours.

An expensive item is not automatically real. But a very cheap one almost certainly is not, because the hide alone costs more than the asking price. If a seller will not name the material and the finish in writing, treat that as the answer.
Full grain, top grain, genuine, bonded
These words are not interchangeable, and one of them is actively misleading.
- Full grain — the outermost layer of the hide, surface intact, natural markings visible. Strongest, and the only grade that develops a real patina.
- Top grain — the same layer sanded to remove blemishes, then finished. More uniform, slightly less durable, still a good buy.
- "Genuine leather" — a grade, not a compliment. Usually the lower splits of the hide after the good layers are taken off. It is real leather and it is the weakest kind.
- Bonded leather — leather scrap ground up and glued to a backing. Avoid. It fails like plastic because it mostly is.
How to check, in under a minute
- Thumb press. Real leather creases and springs back, and the tone shifts as it stretches. Synthetic stays flat and uniform.
- Pores. Irregular on real hide, no two patches alike. Printed PU repeats, because it comes off a roll.
- Cut edge. Look inside a pocket or under a hem. Real leather is fibrous and suede-like underneath. PU shows a woven mesh backing.
- Smell. Least scientific, hardest to fake. Leather smells of tannery; synthetic smells faintly of plastic.
Buying by category

Kordovan cuts and stitches in our own workshop in Malir Cantt, Karachi. Wallets and small leather goods start at Rs 1,499; laptop and office bags run Rs 8,500 to Rs 42,000; made-to-order jackets are Rs 22,000 to Rs 35,000. Everything carries a lifetime craftsmanship warranty against stitching and hardware failure in normal use.
Ready-made pieces — wallets, bags, belts, hats and accessories — can be bought cash on delivery. Jackets and footwear are made to order and paid online at checkout, because each one is cut to a single customer's measurements and cannot be resold if it is refused at the door.

- You want a visible designer logo. We do not put one on the outside.
- You want a jacket this week. Made to order means about three weeks, and longer in peak winter.
